"Architect Judy Noritake, a principal at Noritake Associates and an owner of the Prince Street building where her business is located, said it is the attention to the waterfront that has convinced her that the time is right for a BID. She had strong objections when the idea was raised in 2009, as she did not see much benefit for businesses not located on King Street..Things have changed, though."

Cummins Global Distribution Headquarters is a 5 acre urban campus in the heart of Downtown Indy. The project focuses on a vision of creating a calibrated architecture and a cohesive landscape typology that is performative and environmentally responsible. The project ambitiously collects, treats and reuses all stormwater that falls on the site. The site design consists of sinuous paths and gathering areas nested in swaths of meadows and native woodlands, creating an comfortable place for people and a landscape ecology reminiscent of the native Midwest.  In Collaboration with Deborah Berke Partners and Ratio Architects.

Pennovation Earns LEED Gold Certification

Pennovation Center was recently awarded LEED Gold Certification. The project resuscitated an urban industrial campus into a 21st century think tank. The stormwater design incorporates a multi stage treatment approach. The design channels stormwater from roads and parking areas into rain gardens filled with native plants for infiltration. During major storm events, rain garden overflows are diverted to a large detention facility, treating all stormwater prior to releasing to the Schuykill River. The project has also converted 3.5 acres of lawn into native meadow creating much needed habitat for urban flora and fauna.

WORKING: Deborah Berke Partners is the first comprehensive overview of the firm since Deborah Berke was published in 2008, WORKING focuses on the most recent work of the practice, as manifest in buildings and spaces for work, art, music, and creative endeavours more generally.

WORKING also touches on past projects, such as the Yale School of Art, Marianne Boesky Gallery and Irwin Bank. Using as one point of reference Deborah Berke's book with Steven Harris, Architecture of the Everyday, WORKING goes into detail on Berke's concerns for the ordinary and well as her unique embrace of―and take on―modernism and minimalism. With a particular interest in interstitial building and the renovation and restoration of nineteenth and twentieth century American architecture, the work of the practice occupies a remarkable position within contemporary practice―Berke's approach to context, to the ordinary, and to vernacular and industrial buildings all being clear evidence of this.

Along with writing by Deborah Berke herself, the book is authored by Henry Urback, Director of the Glass House, and highly regarded critic, curator and theoretician of contemporary architecture. WORKING, in part, is also comprised of the insightful photography of Victoria Sambunaris, a long-standing collaborator of Berke's, and chronicler of the practice's work.
