The Green House

Circa 1850

Ground Control is headquartered in a restored circa-1850 house in the heart of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. More than an office, the studio is an active design environment. It is where landscape architecture, cultural memory, material craft, and narrative thinking intersect to shape the work we bring into the world.

The house itself sets the tone for how we practice. From the street, the building reflects the enduring character of Bucks County’s historic fabric. Inside, it unfolds as a sequence of spaces that support different modes of design thinking. Light-filled rooms invite open conversation and early ideation. Formal rooms hold our growing reference library of artifacts, books, and collected precedents. The studio and library spaces support focused production, model making, drawing, and research. Informal gathering spaces encourage reflection, storytelling, and the kind of intuitive thinking that often leads to our most powerful design moves.

We believe environments shape ideas. By working in a place layered with history, material authenticity, and cultural references, we ground our design work in real experience rather than abstraction. The studio functions as a living library of landscape thinking, where ecological knowledge, regional identity, and contemporary design practice are continuously cross-referenced and refined.

Our work emerges from this atmosphere of curiosity and synthesis. Projects are not approached as isolated sites, but as parts of larger cultural, ecological, and narrative systems. The studio supports that approach by surrounding our team with the kinds of signals we look for in landscapes themselves: time, craft, story, and evidence of human and natural processes working together.

Ground Control operates nationally, but our headquarters remains intentionally rooted in place. The Doylestown studio reminds us daily that meaningful design begins with observation, patience, and respect for context.

It is a working studio, a research space, and a gathering place for collaborators, clients, and ideas. Most importantly, it is where we translate landscape intelligence into places that feel inevitable, enduring, and deeply connected to their setting.
