The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts recently gave site selection approval for the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial in Washington D.C.. The site is located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Institute of Peace, adjacent to the future location of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center.

OLIN integrated the memorial into the site, including a future Army Corp of Engineers levee that will reduce flooding in this area of the mall. The memorial is well integrated into cultural landscape of the National Mall allowing for informal recreation to take place on site while preserving long views. The design fosters strong connections to other memorials on the Mall and strengthens the procession of culturally significant spaces along Constitution Avenue towards the Potomac River.
