Hotel & Conference Center at The University of Virginia Charlottesville, VA
The new Hotel and Conference Center at the University of Virginia will anchor the Emmet/Ivy Corridor and act as a bridge between North Grounds and Central Grounds. Like the relationship of Jefferson’s Academical Village to the lawn, the Hotel and Conference Center will be set in the high-performance landscape of the Corridor, creating educational opportunities where UVA’s holistic approach to stormwater collection is reinforced by the natural hydrology/watershed of the area.
A contemporary interpretation of Jeffersonian thinking, the new Hotel and Conference Center will serve the campus community—including students, faculty, and staff—as well as visitors and Charlottesville residents, creating a new place to stay amid the vibrant exchange of ideas. The project also includes the Roof Garden which is an intimate outdoor dining experience to take in the views of the Charlottesville region.
Ground Control’s plan for the Roof Garden provides an immersive dining terrace and garden that creates foreground views from the restaurant while also creating an unique rooftop space to dine and meet. The landscape design takes inspiration from the rolling hills of the Piedmont Region.
